Hi friends! Happy Friday! Summer started off a little rocky, but I think I’m finally getting back in a flow with managing my creative time and other obligations.
Anyway, now that I’m finally mustering up the will to do extracurricular things again, I’m getting a ton of ideas coming in, but I’m not finding time to do it all. I have been able to squeeze in at least a few minutes for practicing Scots Gaelic. I just hit 151 days of studying. Halò chàirdean. Tha Gàidhlig cho spòrsail!
I didn’t want to talk work stuff here, but sometimes it creeps into my art if I have something on my mind. I drew you a little comic at the end of the newsletter. If you are alive and breathing, someone will ask you to do something ASAP at some point. And I really hate it when people use it, because it’s not a real time frame. There, I said it. When I see those four letters I basically throw away all essential life activities (obtaining nourishment, emptying bladder, breathing normally) and can’t do anything until that thing is in the hands of the person who asked for it because surely they must need it immediately. I’m like Spongebob when he threw out all the things in his brain that weren’t fine dining and breathing. That’s not a healthy way to work, but I try to do better by telling myself they don’t actually mean right this minute.
Here’s a little thing I sketched out and re-drew in Illustrator. I’m still tweaking it, but the idea it to have it printed on a shirt.
Mama is sewing again. But not before destroying my room and every box of scraps I have to look for this *specific* mustard fabric scrap that I knew I had somewhere. When I found it I got to work cutting squares and piecing quilt blocks for the yoke for my new fit. I’ve made this pattern several times. It’s vintage Simplicity #5330 I got from eBay. Yes, it’s a nightgown pattern. Before I started on this I cut out a pair of trousers to sew, but I lost interest and my brain decided I needed to do this instead. I really needed those trousers too as I only have one pair of pants. Really happy with the almost finished dress though and glad my brain took a side quest. It’s just the dang hem left again. I’ll get to it. Oh yea, it has pockets. Bye.
Everything is growing, weeds, more weeds, some Alpaca Evolution-esque sunflowers. There’s been plenty of rain this Summer, so pleased that I haven’t had to get out to water the garden much. I sweat enough inside. We’ve been eating and picking all the watermelon.
